A woman at the Bronx Zoo had an up-close encounter with a lion, and it was captured on video.

The video posted to Instagram, which has been viewed nearly 52,000 times, shows a woman in a T-shirt and pants standing extremely close to the lion, who was stands and stares at her.

Reports indicate the woman climbed into the zoo’s African lion exhibit, NBC4 reports

In the video, she can be seen raising her arms and wiggling her body as if she were dancing to taunt the wildlife predator. The lion continued to stare.

“Look at that!” Hernan Reynoso’s wife called out while he was recording their day at the zoo with their son.

He turned his recording to the woman and captured her encounter in the lion’s den. Initially, he thought it was just a part of the exhibit, NBC4 reports.

“But when I see … she just was there, dancing, saying, ‘Hi,’ to the lion and everything and that was crazy,” Reynoso told NBC4.

When the lion appeared to get agitated and roared, Reynoso didn’t stick around to find out what happened next. He grabbed his family and they left, he told NBC4.

“This action was a serious violation and unlawful trespass that could have resulted in serious injury or death,” the Bronx Zoo said in a statement to NBC4 on Tuesday (October 1), confirming the incident that took place over the weekend.

“Barriers and rules are in place to keep both visitors, staff and animals safe,” the statement continued. “We have a zero tolerance policy on trespass and violation of barriers.”

It’s unclear whether the woman in the video, whose identity has not been made public, will face any charges or actions taken by the zoo.
